Martha and I double-dated in high school, but I really got to know
her in the mid-70's when she dated and later married one of my
close friends.  Martha was a terrific writer, and I still make her
crab dip recipe on a regular basis.  She was one of those people who was so multi-talented.  If you were her friend, you were  friends to the end.

Obituary:
Pete Lanier - March 21st, 2012
I met Jimmy in 1960 after my family moved to Bluff Park. We lived on the same street, Park Terrace, along with The Bobos, Creels, Mortons, Crumps, DeLapps, Bonds, Bushs, Surles, Crows, Watsons, Woodwards, Camps, Howells, Hillhouse, Brandinos, Sides, Templetons, Jones and some more....
We would play football in our backyards, army games, ride bicycles, etc. Jimmy was there a lot of the times. He lost his mother to cancer during those years. Must have been very hard on him. He seemed to me to be somewhat quiet, funloving, polite, wanting to belong. It's so sad to have any of our classmates leave us.
Jimmy Cooper - April 8th, 2010
Jimmy could kick a football forever but the thing I remember, he was a roady for The Odds n Ends when we traveled to Ozark to play gigs our senior year.
Bob Bridwell - March 2nd, 2010
Jimmy was in our 4th grade class at Bluff Park.  We played YMCA football together and Jimmy was our star running back. Jimmy kicked several PATs and field goals that made our 1968 season at Berry.  I wish I knew what happened to him.

Donald Walpole Dobbins Jr. (69) of Gulf Shores, Alabama went to be with our Lord Jesus on May 22, 2020. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

Tim Shirley - February 17th, 2016
PA is one of my first cousins, her mother Patty is my father's sister.

I was very fortunate to have her as a close friend. During our later years, we were able to spent a lot of time together, traveling and visiting family members. She would come down to Eufaula during holidays and stay with us but being unable to put her work down - she would always inspect our local Goody's store and rearrange their displays for them. It had to be her way.

During one of our road trips, we were discussing headstones and epitaphs. I came to the conclusion that her's should read "It was all about Me". I almost had that put on her stone.

It's been two years this past February that she pasted and we still miss her greatly. She actually died 5 days after my Father, Ray Shirley. My brother Mitch stated in her eulogy that he liked to think of them walking together into heaven.

I love her dearly and miss her daily.

when the weather was warm, we would drink beer, sit on our decks and solve the problems of the world.  Anita had an
incredible inner peace.  She left us far too soon.
mary kay Hyche - February 18th, 2010
I did not know that Anita was gone. I had known Anita since childhood. She was a good friend and a great band buddy. We had a lot of fun on trips, during hours and hours of band practice and band contests. We had a special bond because we both lost our mothers while we were in high school.

Ted Lowry

Obituary:
Andy Openshaw - April 7th, 2010
Ted was a cool guy. He was a quiet and humble guy but played a mean horn. My best memory of Ted was a group of us hanging around his house on a Saturday morning watching Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. Our lives crossed paths after high school and I was really saddened when we lost him.

Deceased Date: 2007-04-02
Obituary:
Mike Goebel - May 11th, 2020
Rickey and I and Bob Cargo were best friends in high school. We went every where together. He lived in Bluff Park with his parents and two brothers. After he graduated he worked many years for Birmingham Battery Wholesale. He knew everything about batteries. After he retired he got a job as a school bus driver for Shelby County. His kids (route) were from Helena Elementary school. They loved Mr. Martin. Rickey died of a heart attack in 2007.
Debbie Russell Grebel - April 21st, 2016
I didn't know Rickey in high school, but I knew Debbe's sisters. I was in class of 1971. My husband and I own a dance studio in Pelham. We have presented The Nutcracker every year in Pelham since 2005. Rickey, and his wife Debbe, were instrumental in getting our first performances going. Rickey was "the wind beneath the wings" of the Mother Ginger character who was rolled out in a huge skirt with little children running out from under it. Debbe helped us to get our first Mother Ginger, Mayor Bobby Hayes and the tradition of city administrators lives on to this day. I will never forget how funny and kind Rickey always was. We will always remember him and miss him!

Obituary:
Ken Glass - March 4th, 2011
I met Trish when I was 16 and she was 14. She brought me out of my shell and was the first person to call me Ken instead of Kenny. We played doubles tennis at the old Phillips High tennis courts and she was an awesome player. She was a beautiful person and I miss her to this day.
Beth Brady - April 14th, 2010

Trish was my roommate and best friend for three years at Auburn.
We called each other "Room", and I still miss her everyday.
Everyone knew she was beautiful on the outside, but she was
also gorgeous on the inside.  Only a few of us lucky folks knew
how smart Trish was.

On the day she was buried, the ATO's at Birmingham-Southern
College all wore black armbands in her memory.  There was no
connection to her.  They just liked to watch her on TV when
she marched with the Auburn band.

Teena (Dobbs) Newman - March 17th, 2010
What a great gal!  Everyone liked her.  I was proud to be her friend.  After we all graduated, she was the first classmate, to my knowledge, that tradgically died.  She was a real star at Auburn and had a great future ahead of her.
mary kay Hyche - February 18th, 2010
All platinum with a heart of gold! Still miss you Trish.

I graduated one year before he did and went into the Army for 22 years. I was in his wedding to Lynda. He followed into the Army for 7 years and then got out. He was always a great guy to be around. I knew his wife Lynda, his parents, his grandmother and his two brothers (Mike and Joe).   Hoooah Big Dave!!!!

Sharon Turner (Owens)

Birth Date: 1951-04-24
Deceased Date: 2022-02-11
Obituary:
Sharon Owens Turner
After bravely fighting ovarian cancer for nearly five years, Sharon Owens Turner passed on February 11, 2022. Sharon was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 24, 1951 and is preceded in death by her mother, Audrey Sims Owens, and father, Vernon Clair Owens. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, Ira Cain Turner and her daughters Rachel Turner Weingartner (Christopher) and Laura Turner Baker (Warren). She also leaves behind her five adoring grandchildren who were the light of her life: Robert Turner Weingartner, Charles Sims Weingartner, Christopher Wells Weingartner, Tabern William Baker and Virginia Claire Baker as well as stepmother, Frances Mitchell Owens, and siblings Vicki Brannon (Harrison), Cynthia Brennan, Gene Gray (Angelyn) and Susan Gray and dozens of nieces, nephews and other family. Sharon graduated from Berry High School in 1969 and then from Auburn University. She went on to receive her PhD from the University of Alabama in Clinical Psychology and first practiced at East Side Mental Health Center where she made lifelong colleagues and friends. During her career, she was in private practice for over thirty-five years during which she skillfully counseled hundreds of patients. She also was a member of the Alabama and American Psychological Associations, the Women's Network of Birmingham, the Assistance League of Birmingham and received a distinguished service award from the Crisis Center, for which she proudly helped establish its Rape Response facility. Sharon was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church, where she helped form its Child Development Center. Despite her many accomplishments, she said her best work was taking care of her grandchildren, and she rarely missed a school performance, sporting event, dance recital or opportunity to babysit for them. Sharon loved to travel with her family to her favorite places, including New York City, Seaside, Florida and Lake Martin which she grew up visiting as a child. An avid reader and woman of faith, Sharon loved her book clubs and small group. Sharon was known for her witty sense of humor and thoughtful listening ear and will also be missed by her closest friends to whom she was devoted. The family would like to thank doctors Ronald Alverez, M.D. (Vanderbilt University Medical Center) and Warner Huh M.D. (University of Alabama at Birmingham), HomeRN and Linda Core for their efforts in caring for Sharon through her final days. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, February 17 at Highlands United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Encore Community Respite Ministry at Canterbury Methodist Church at 350 Overbrook Road Birmingham, AL 35213.

Obituary:
Tommy Davis - April 16th, 2017
She was my first Love back in 1969.  I went to Leeds High at that time.  Yes we did go dancing at the Armory in the Eastwood Mall area, which Her favorite band played.  Remembered she was in the acting arts in her later high school at Berry.   Kept in touch thru my Airforce days till she passed.  A great lost to me,  first time I have wrote anything since that time.  Her husband was a lucky fellow.  Visit her grave a few times after.. Miss her so much.
Jane Bilbe (Hallmon) - March 13th, 2010
I counted Linda as one of my closest friends at Berry.  She was sweet and very loyal to her friends.  I lost touch with so many people afterwards.  I believe that I am a better person for knowing Linda but "D**n",  I wish I could see her again.
Myrna Gunn - March 7th, 2010
Linda was a good friend and a sweet soul who loved horses. The band Paul Revere and the Raiders comes to mind when I think of Linda also, because I remember that she loved that group.  I'm sure her joy for life carries over into spirit.

Dianne Lanford Killian - March 7th, 2010

She was a special friend from first grade at Vestavia Elem. till we graduated. We had a blast on Prom night when she, Valerie Frazier and I and our dates went togather. She always had poor health. Cancer took her in her mid 30's. I wish you could be with us at the reunion.
