Do You Remember?
When television was simple. There were only 3 channels to chose from, ABC, NBC and CBS.
When the comedy was true comedy and mostly in black and white. Our parents did not have to worry about us watching off color shows, because there were none. There was Howdy Dowdy, Captain Kangaroo, The Little Rascals, The Three Stooges, Carol Burnette, I Love Lucy, Red Skelton and of course our local hero Cousin Cliff.   Remember, we didn’t have TV’s in our bedrooms so we all watched together as a family. We only had radios for entertainment in our rooms.

Home delivery.   The milk man came to the door twice a week.   The fuller brush man called periodically and the paper boy came by monthly to collect for the Birmingham News.

Going to the gas station. You would never pump your own gas and there was always a nice man to check your oil, put air in tires and clean your windshield and you didn’t even have to tip them.
Going to the grocery store. When we checked out, our mothers received green stamps. We would glue them into books and when you had several books, we would go shopping for FREE stuff at the S&H Green Stamp Store in Homewood.

We all lived so far out there was no where to eat except for Jack’s Hamburgers in Vestavia.   Went almost every afternoon.   Hamburgers were 15 cents. What about Pasquales Pizza – garlic bread, yum. The drive-in theatre in Vestavia was always a great hangout too.

Terms like, The Me Generation, Hippies, Burn your Bras, & Make Love Not War. If only we had the wisdom then, that we have now.

The Preppie Look in fashion. Box pleated skirts, round color blouses, and knee socks. Then the extreme – the hippie look with bell bottoms and tie dye shirts.    What about penny loafers and Rah Rah’s.   Guys wore button down shirts with loops on the back the girls would yank off it they liked you.   Go figure

Its fun thinking back into our high school days, and for many of us it seems a blur. We really had a very simple life then. Over the years as we have each gone out into the world and lived our lives, its fun to come back together and relive those good times.   Our lives have taken us into different directions.    Many have married, had teenagers and even grandchildren approaching these fun times.    Unfortunately, many of our classmates are not with us any more, and for that we are sad.   But for those of us still here, let’s reunite with some school spirit and say   “GO BUCS”!!!
