Comment: Although so many years have passed since those wonderful days as a Berry Buc, it truly seems like yesterday! The journey of my life after Berry started in Tuscaloosa, AL. After attending the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) between 1969 and 1972 I married the most wonderful guy in the world, Mark Stephens, even though he was a Shades Valley graduate. We moved to west Texas for the great adventure of his ROTC commitment as an Air Force pilot. While there I student taught to finish my bachelor's degree, then we moved to Tuscaloosa, again for Law School/Graduate School, first law practice, and my teaching art in two middle schools and at the U of A. After staying in Tuscaloosa for fourteen years we moved back home to Birmingham where we have lived for the past 20 years. Along the way we have been blessed with two sons and a daughter, two grand daughters and another grand baby due in April, 2011. We are so grateful for our marriage and careers over the past 38 years. In June of 2010 I retired as the Visual Arts Supervisor for the Jefferson County Board of Education and am now teaching part-time and supervising student teachers in the art education program at UAB. I would love to hear from you and hope and pray that life is being good to all of you fine class of '69 folk. My best to each of you, Jan

Comment:

After graduation I attended and graduated from Ida V. Moffatt School of Nursing at Samford. I worked in the ER at Brookwood for several years then in the home care field for 10 years retiring in the late 90's as Director of Hospice and Asst. Director of Home Care Services at Medical Center East. I turned a hobby into a sort of job and sell my paintings from home. Mostly I keep house and enjoy my grandchildren.

My husband, James, and I live in Hoover and have raised a daughter and 2 sons. James is a former sergeant in the Marine Corps and currently a Vice-President of ImfomationTechnology for the Mortgage Division of Regions Bank and works at the Riverchase Operations Center.

I do a great deal of volunteer work for The Silver Star Families of America, since our youngest son, Jamie, was injured while serving in the USMC in Iraq.

Our daughter, Lesleigh, is married with 2 children, lives in Leeds, and is an Admin. Asst. at Regions Mortgage.

Our oldest son, Rob is married and is an MRI Tech. for ImagesSouth. He and his wife, Kasey, are expecting their 1st child, a boy, in May 2012.

Our youngest is now out of the Marines, and is curently empolyed by Cafe Firenza Restaurants.

He recently married and he and his wife, Camille and her son, live in Clanton.

It's been a great life so far, and I'm looking forward to the next 60 years.

Comment: Trying to get into 1969 mode before the 55th reunion Saturday, I decided to review old names and faces here on the website. Discovered I never added my profile info that I planned to do when I could not attend the 50th reunion :(. Better late than never!

Graduated from Birmingham Southern College with degrees in French and Secondary education. Got second degree in Elementary education from UAB in order to teach French at the elementary level.

Taught for one year in 1974 at The Cathedral of the Advent day school and married my high school sweet heart (Roger Stroud - Shades Valley!) that year as well.

Moved to New Orleans in 1975 for one year where Roger completed his medical residency and I taught French at the Acedemy of the Sacred Heart on St. Charles Avenue.

Moved to Anniston, Alabama where Roger set up his practice in Dermatologic surgery and I managed the office. After years living in Anniston, we decided to move to Atlanta and Roger commuted 3 to 4 days a week to Anniston for work and I retired as office manager,

Once in Atlanta, I developed a brand name, "Everlastings", that covered several ventures. A dried floral design business followed by landscape design that fed my artistic interests through "self taught" mode! Later stretched the brand name to other things "Everlasting" working with vintage textiles making high end, designer pillows with vinatge handkerchiefs and new fabrics, pinafores for little girls, and scarves. Also incorporated a jewlery line of one-of-a-kind pendants, "Sea Buttons", created from sea shell fragments, sea glass, vintage buttons, and wirework.

Stilll selling my wares and concentrating now on continuing to landscape the grounds of our 106 year old house in the Druid Hills Landmark District here in the city where we have lived for 40 years. I also serve on the Landmark District Preservation for the neighborhood civic association working with the Atlanta Urban Design Commission to help protect our Frederick Law Olmsted designed corner of the world!

So life is good and looking forward after so many years to catching up with many of you at the reunion!
