Married to David Hills (Banks High and Auburn University). Graduated from Auburn University with a BS in Textile Science. Later, worked on an MS in Textile Science at Auburn and MS in Accounting at University of North Texas. Dave's job as an electrical engineer at Texas Instruments took us to Dallas, where we've been the whole time except for 8 years in Austin. Now we're on a farm outside of Dallas and enjoying having our sanctuary away from the city, but being close enough to have access to what we need. Our son Jason just graduated from the University of North Texas and is now in graduate school at the University of Texas at Dallas. My career has been varied, including being an accountant and an IT manager; leading the creation of JCPenney.com; being an Internet consultant and later the intranet executive at Dell Computer; serving as an executive strategy consultant at Cisco Systems; and now being a professional speaker and non-profit CEO. I've written three books ranging from intranets to women's heart health, with a 4th book in the works. My foray from the corporate world into the non-profit world came from almost dying twice in the same year, first during an emergency heart procedure and later from blood clots and a near stroke due to atrial fibrillation, the most common irregular heartbeat. That same year, I participated in Leadership Texas, which drove me to find a way to make a difference. After surgery to cure my atrial fibrillation, I couldn't watch others suffer so I started StopAfib.org, a non-profit patient advocacy organization for those living with atrial fibrillation. Today, I give a voice to the atrial fibrillation community by influencing policy in the US and Europe in order to make a difference for those living with afib. My goal is that by raising awareness of atrial fibrillation we will wipe out strokes caused by it.
